
CHANDIGARH, June 23: Holland Club, Sector 42 blanked Germany Club 3-0 in their second league match in the senior group in the six-a-side hockey tournament played at Sector 42 Hockey Stadium under the aegis of Chandigarh Sports Department.
Jasbir, who struck twice within a span of eight minutes was the main architect of the team8217;s victory in the match today. Nirmal scored the third goal for the team in the closing stages of the contest to complete the tally.
Holland Club, however, had a set back in their opening league match yesterday against Australia Club, when they lost by 0-2. Bhupinder and Devinder shot one each for the winner.
In another match of the day, Australia Club held Air India Club to a goalless draw.
Indianna Club outplayed Tiger Club 3-1. Gupreet got two goals while Gurtej scored one for the winners. The lone goal for Tiger Club was scored by Sukhbir Gill, who was one of the member of the Indian hockey team in the recently concluded World Cup held at Holland. The main idea of the six-a-side meet, is to encourage the budding players to play hockey and at the same time give them a feel of competitiveness. There is no goalkeeper in the match and width of the goal post is one yard. The dimensions of the play field is 60 by 25 yards. To make it more intense, the duration of the match is 30 minutes. For junior and sub-junior categories, however, the duration of the encounter is reduced to 25 minutes.
Some teams have girls players also in their rank.
The players are not allowed to hit or scoop the ball. 8220;Its basically push and pass contest to improve the basic skills of the players,8221; said Jasbir Singh, hockey coach.
The team having maximum number of points after the end of their league engagements would be declared winner of the meet in each group.
There are six clubs in the senior section. Five in the junior and three in the sub-junior categories.
