
WAGAH, April 5: A jatha of over 100 Sikhs and Hindus, led by Shiromani Akali Dal SAD secretary general Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, today crossed over to Pakistan from Wagha checkpost on its way to Lahore from where a Khalsa March8217; to Anandpur Sahib will start on April 7.
Incidentally, Lahore is the birthplace of Bhai Daya Singh, one of the Panj piaras baptised at Anandpur Sahib by Guru Gobind Singh in 1699 on Baisakhi when he formed the Khalsa Panth. The march from Lahore will join the tercentenary celebrations at Anandpur Sahib on April 13.
Dhindsa and other members of jatha were given a warm farewell by Punjab Deputy Speaker and BJP leader Baldev Raj Chawla and local SAD leaders. He was accompanied by two MPs 8212; Rajmohinder Singh Majitha and Zora Singh Mann, besides five MLAs, including Jasdev Singh Sandhu, chairman of Punjab Subordinate Services Selection Board and Hardev Singh Mattewal, Advocate- General and chairman of Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Council. The SAD secretary general said the Chief Minister had extended a formal invitation to West Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu.
Dhindsa said tomorrow they would go to Nankana Sahib and meet family members of Bhai Daya Singh, besides making arrangements for the March. He said many Sikh NRIs, Pakistani Sikhs and Muslims would join the Khalsa March8217; for which the Pakistan government has granted them special permission.
The SAD secretary general said their visit was a sequel to the bus yatra of Prime Minister to Lahore and said the march would further strengthen the ties between India and Pakistan and remove many misconceptions about each other. He said he would present silver plaques, carrying a logo of tercentenary celebrations to the Chief Minister and Governor of Punjab province.
Dhindsa also thanked Indian and Pakistani governments for granting permission to take out the Khalsa March.
