COLOMBO, Aug 2: Navjot Singh Sidhu could not have chosen a better occasion to remind the selectors that he still is one of the best to handle any Test attack, whether on batsmen-friendly or on slow wickets as the Premadasa Stadium wicket here proved on Saturday.

The 34-year-old opener, who has been in and out of the national team after his controversial walk-out in the middle of the England tour last summer, hit his eighth Test century in his 41st Test in an international career spanning 14 years.

Sidhu, who made an unbeaten century in the three-day practice match preceding the Test, took advantage of the slowness of the wicket and showed his superb touch by lofting off-spinner Muttiah Murlitharan for two sixes on either side of the sightscreen.

On the eve of the Test, Sidhu had told newsmen that he was determined to make a big score. 8220;The unbeaten century in the three-day game was the kind of boost I needed for my confidence,8221; he had said.
