
CHANDIGARH, Oct 28: The UT police have suspended Sub-Inspector Charanjit Singh for his alleged involvement in a beating incident last night. While the police have registered a case against Charanjit Singh on the complaint of Sector 38 resident Pawan Singla, the police have also registered a cross-case on the complaint filed by the Sub-Inspector.
Singla and his two sons had alleged that they were beaten up by a police party at a naka in Sector 15. Charanjit Singh, in his complaint alleged that he had challaned Singla8217;s son for quot;using black film on his carquot;. However, he refused to sign the challan slip and drove away without taking the slip. Within 15 minutes he was back with his father and brother who allegedly misbehaved with the SI and also assaulted him.
The police have registered a case under Sections 332, 353 and 323 of Indian Penal Code, for allegedly assaulting him to deter him from performing his duties and threatening him Earlier, the police had registered a case of quot;theft after preparation for causing death, or hurt8230;quot;, wrongfully confining a person and assault. A case was registered under Sections 382, 342 and 323 of IPC.
Singla and his two sons have a different story to narrate. Pawan Singla said his son, Rakesh Singla, told him that the police had harassed him and taken his wallet containing Rs 5,000, while challaning him. Thereafter, Pawan, along with Rakesh and another son, Arvind, drove back to the naka where they were beaten up and his gold chain also snatched away.
Meanwhile, medical examination of Singla has revealed that he was quot;drunkquot;, ASP Alok Kumar said.
