
Parinder Sharma smashes unbeaten 115
A scintillating unbeaten 115 by Haryana opening batsman Parinder Sharma helped Bright Club beat Rohtak Road Gymkhana by six wickets to enter the next round of the 25th Goswami Ganesh Dutt Memorial Tournament at the Hindu College grounds here today.
Bright, given a target of 216 in 40 overs, made a poor start losing two wickets for only 17 runs. But Parinder, who struck a dozen boundaries and a six in his 122-ball knock, got ample support from opener Jasbir Singh 37 and Rakesh Kaushal 29 not out and steered the team to victory in 39.2 overs. Parinder and Kaushal put on 74 runs for the unbroken fifth wicket in 13.1 overs.
Put in to bat, R R Gymkhana made 215 for eight, with the top-order clicking. Openers Rajesh Anand 54 and left-handed Chetan Sharma 41 were concerned in a 97-run stand. One-drop Pradeep Chawla contributed 34. But the rest of the batsmen failed to consolidate on the strong foundation. Kishan Soni 3 for 44 and Ajay Sharma 2 for 44 were the main wicket-takers. Easy for ASC
ASC Centre, South scored a comfortable 93-29 victory over Southern Command in the seventh DGST Basketball Championship being played at Delhi Cantt. Swamiblutta top scored for the winner with 23 points while R.S.Raj, with 12 points, was the best among Southern Command. In another match, Central Command routed Northern Command 81-6. Gurmeet top scored with 26 points for the winners. Eastern Command beat Southern Command 58-29 in another counter. Baljit Kumar 24 and Tilak Raj 14 were the main scorers for the winners. Virender, with 15 points, was the main scorer for Southern.

A K Satish8217;s swashbuckling unbeaten century helped South Zone defeated North Zone by 67 runs in their last league match to win the J K Bose tournament at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, according to reports reaching here. East Zone beat West Zone 3-1 in the finals to win the A C Bali table tennis trophy last night.
