GFI selects 23 for camp
The Gymnastic Federation of India has selected 23 gymnasts, including 10 women, for the national coaching camp which will begin on September 1 at the National Institute of Sports, Patiala. The final team selection will be held on September 12 at Patiala.

The Indian gymnastic team will participate in the 34th Artistic Gymnastics World Championships begining at Tianjin, in China from October 9. GFI officials are confident that two or three Indians would qualify for the 2000 Sydney Olympics as the Tianjin world meet will also serve as the qualifying meet for Olympics.

The probables for the camp: Men: Vikas Pandey, Guarav Shah, Mayank Srivastava, Mohit Yadav (UP), Sudip Jana (West Bengal), Kuldip, Vikrant Sharma, Rajinder Prasad (Pb), Vishal Deshpande, Ajit Jarande (Maharashtra), Aveenish, Prasanjit (Rlys), and Sarfraz (Rajasthan). Coaches: Khusanjan and Sarvir Singh.
Women: Tumpa Debnath, Subhra Sarkar, Chanchala, Rakhi Debnath (West Bengal), Poonam Chhabra, Runa Dass, Sundari, Chetna Chahal (Rlys), Jaswant Kaur (Pb), Manisha Sharma (Maharashtra). Coaches: Kalpana Debnath and J. Chakraborty.

Amit Sharma excels
Unbeaten knocks by Amit Sharma (60 not out) and Arjun Sharma (37 not out) helped St Mary’s School (Safdarjung Enclave) beat RPCA (RK Puram) by eight wickets in a triangular series limited overs match. Pawan Kumar (36) was the top scorer for the losers.
Brief scores: RPCA: 130 for nine in 30 overs (Pawan Kumar 36, Shivang 3 for 11) lost to St Mary’s School: 137 for 2 in 20 overs (Amit Sharma 60 not out, Arjun Sharma 37 not out).

Shailender impressive
Fine knock by Shailender (85) and useful 37 by Vishal Rajdan enabled Goel XI triumph over Ambedkar Eleven by 65 runs in the Guru Shyam Charan Dass tournament at Ram Lila ground, JL Nehru Marg. Sat Singh and Anil were the main contributors for Ambedkar Eleven while Salauddin was the most successful wicket-taker for the winners.

The All Delhi Karate Do Association will organise open Delhi State martial art championship on August 29 at Bal Bharti Public School, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital Marg, Rajinder Nagar. Entry is open in this tourney. Cash prize of Rs 1000 will be given in the open weight category of Kick Boxing event.

Hukam Singh dangal
The 23rd edition of All India Chaudhary Hukam Singh memorial wrestling contest will be organised in Village Bawana on the outskirts of Delhi on September 7. Dozens of national and international-reputed wrestlers are expected to participate in the competition, which is an annual affair.
