
Aparna excels in the US
Aparna Ravi, the Chennai girl who studies in Harvard University, helped its tennis team finish second in the Ivy League with a 6-1 record. Harvard qualified for the NCAA Championships for the second year running and qualified for the East Regional final, according to information received here.
Harvard, the third seed in the region, defeated fifth-seeded Virginia (5-0) and second-seeded Alabama (5-4) before succumbing to the top seeds William & Mary (5-3). Aparna, playing mainly at the No 5 and No 6 position, compiled a 15-8 win-loss record.
Hockey magazine to hit stands
A hockey magazine called "Stickwork” will be launched. Edited by the former India captain, Pargat Singh, it is priced at a modest Rs 100 for a year’s subscription. Soccer player suspended
The Western India Football Association has suspended a Naval Civilian player, Sanjay Kar, for appearing for two teams. Kar, who played for his team against Fr. Agnel on June 13, had earlier appeared for Indian Cultural League on May 19 by changing his name to Sanjay Kumar. Sanjay Kar will be not allowed to take further part in the WIFA league.
Squash tourney
The Videocon Classic squash tournament will be held from June 23-29 at the Otters Club. All the leading players are participating.
