National Senior, Inter-State carrom from March 29
The 27th Senior National amp; Inter-State carrom championship for men and women will be held at Akola, under the auspices of the Vidarbha Carrom Association and the All-India Carrom Federation, from March 29 to April 3. The championship is already slated to become the largest ever with almost 34 States, Union Territories and Institutions and nearly 700 players and officials taking part. Tripura and Indian Audit amp; Accounts will be making their debut.
During the championship the annual general body meeting of the AICF will be held and some important decisions will be taken for the promotion of the game. The seven-day tourney will be played on Precise Elegant boards with Ashwin carrom men.
Bimal to coach Maharashtra
Bimal Ghosh, coach of National Football League NFL side Air-India, will guide the Maharashtra squad at the National Championships to be held in Assam. The much-acclaimed coach guided Air-India to fifth spot in therecently concluded NFL after the Mumbai side enjoyed an unbeaten run in the first leg of the competition. The squad leaves on April 3. The championship, played for the Santosh Trophy, runs from April 6 to 27.
Inter-company kabaddi tourney
The 11th Tata Inter-Company kabaddi tournament, conducted by the Tatas Sports Club, will be held at the Shramik Gymkhana, NM Joshi Marg, Mumbai 400 013, from March 29-30. The participating teams are Tisco-Jamshedpur, Tata Chemicals, Telco-Pune, Titan Industries-Bangalore, Voltas-MP, Voltas Sports Club, Rallis India, Tata Sons, Tata Donnelly Ltd and Tata Electric. The matches will be league-cum-knock-out basis.
