Cycle race on March 22
The country’s leading cyclists will be vying for top honours in the gruelling 150-km Promise Mumbai-Pune Cycle Race to be flagged off on March 22.
A total prize money of Rs 1.5 lakh is at stake in the gruelling race.Those interested should submit their entries, along with a fee of Rs 25, by March 16 at M/s Balsara Hygeine Products Ltd, Balsara House, 43 Master Road, Fort.

MASA hill climbing contests
The Maharashtra Automotive Sports Association (MASA) will be staging hill climbs to be held at Helipad Hill, Hiranandani Gardens, Powai, on Sundays March 15 and April 12. The Hill Climb is open to all enthusiasts wishing to participate in cars as well as motorcylces. The total distance of the climb is appoximately 2 kms.

Veterans’ volleyball in Chembur

Jockeys’ strike called off
The proposed All-India strike by jockeys has been called off.
A Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) release here today said, “The RWITC has had a dialogue with the office-beares of the Jockeys’ Association of India as a result of which the proposed strike has been called off by the jockeys not only at Mumbai, but all over India.”
“The chairman and the committee of the RWITC, at the request of the JAI, will use its good offices to try and prevail upon Royal Calcutta Turf Club, Hyderabad Race Club and Madras Race Club to contribute half per cent of the stake towards theProfessional Jockeys Trust of India.
Surve, Pujari emerge victorious
The Asian Funakoshi Karate Championship, organised by the Funakoshi Shotokan Karate Organisation of India, concluded at the Priyadarshini Sports Complex, recently. More than 1000 karate-kas from all over India as well as from Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh participated in the event.
Among the winners, Satish Surve lifted the `Kumite’ Championship Trophy ahead of Prashant Shirke. Vishal Pujari emerged supreme in the `Kata’ division with Jasmine Makwana finishing runner-up.
