Top teams to compete in W Rly All-India Bridge

Top teams of the country will take part in the All India Bridge tournament organised by the Western Railway as part of their centenary celebrations from May 15.

The four-day tournament will be held at the the Railway Officers Club Badhwar Park in South Mumbai and has been accorded recognition from the Bridge Federation of India.

The tourney will feature leading lights like Sunil Machcher’s, CV Rao’s, Jimmy Mehta’s, Ruia’s, and Tolani’s. Besides, top two teams of Indian Railways would also be taking part.

Around 40 teams are expected to take part in the team event, while around 60-65 pairs will take part in the pairs event.

The tournament will be held in three different categories team of four duplicate event, open pairs event and invitation pairs.

The total prize money for the team event is Rs 2,10,000, while for the pairs event the prize money is Rs 72,500.

The first prize for the team event carries Rs one lakh.

St Thomas campconcludes

The three-week long 18th St Thomas Sports Talent Centre’s coaching camp, co-sponsored by Coca-Cola, Bharat Petroleum and Mahindras, concluded at the St Pius Seminary ground, Goregaon (E).

Outstanding trainees: Athletics: Hemant Rajwade and Prasad Bamne (boys); Hakansha Bhavanishankar and Mirella Vaz (girls). Most promising: Maria Pereira.

Football: Vivian Pinto, Manjappa Salian, Ravikrishna Desai and Jerry Carvalho. Basketball: Hrishikesh More and Vernon D’Costa.

Volleyball: Sachindanand Bamne. Most promising trainee: Prajakta Potade.
