Varsities (WZ) table tennisThe University of Mumbai is proud to host the Inter-University (WZ) table tennis tournament for men and women at the Konkan Gyanpeeth College of Engineering, Karjat, Raigad from November 4 to 7.About 300 players from 33 universities will be taking part and this is the first tournament of such status to be held in Raigad District.Maharashtra, Gujarat, MP, Rajasthan and Goa are the five States that will be participating.Top stars for Independence Cup chessLeading Grandmasters, International Masters and national players would be seen in action in the Rs 1.5 lakh prize money Independence Cup second All-India chess tournament to be held here from December 4 to 13.The top 10 unrated players in the tournament, to be played on Swiss League System (11 rounds), would be given free entry for the Independence Cup to be held in November next year, a release said here today.Special prizes would also be awarded to the top 10 women players, juniors' (under-18) andsub-juniors' (under-12) sections apart from the first prize of Rs 51,000 to the winner, the release added. Inter-school throwball from Nov 9The MSSA-Colgate Inter-School throwball tournament for girls under-16, under-14 and under-12 years will be held from November 9 at the MSSA-Castrol Schools Sports Centre, Azad Maidan (North End), Mahapalika Marg. Entries close on November 5.
