Sewage plant to be ready by 2000

While the estimate of the Rs 145-lakh project too has been approved, the scheme awaits the approval of the Chief Architect. The officials said that although the site has been approved tentatively, the land is yet to be acquired after which the tendering process will begin.

The project, according to the officials, will be able to take offat the earliest by the end of this year.

It will take at least a year-and-a-half which means by mid-2000 for the plant to be commissioned. The plant will have the capacity of one million gallon per day and it will cater to five villages in the union territory besides CRPF and ITBP complexes. The villages include Hallomajra, Behlana, Raipur Khurd, Makhanmajra and Daria.

At present, there is only one sewage treatment plant to cater to the sewerage for the entire City and a few villages and colonies like Karsan, Ram Darbar and Bapu Dham, which is situated in S. A. S. Nagar. Other villages and colonies, which although planned, cannot be connected to this plant, as the level of these places is too low, according to officials.

Meanwhile, the administration proposes to provide 16 mobile toilet vans to eight villages, especially where no sewerage system exists.

This will help reduce the open defecation in the villages, the officials added.
