PUNE, OCT 12: Eyebrows would surely be raised at the firebrand former Chief Election Commissioner T N Seshan for having something to do with the essence of Kamasutra. This has nothing to do with the code of conduct8217; but something related to the mode of conduct8217; about which Seshan had some observations to make.

What was supposed to be a lively and captivating session with Seshan, turned out to be a bitter8217; reminder for the organisers of the award distribution function by Shatayushi, a Diwali magazine, at Tilak Smarak Mandir in Pune on Sunday that the chief guest may not necessarily be sauve and polite especially when it comes to the likes of Seshan.

The organisers were taken aback, when Seshan, sounding harsh enough, snubbed renowned sexologist Prakash Kothari for making a joke of sex education8217; in his more than thirty-minute presentation at the function. Deviating from his conventional style of spewing venom at the country8217;s political situation, Seshan came down hard upon the sexcounsellors and medical professionals, who were making a mockery of the sensitive subject, he said.

Kothari, earlier, in his presentation supplemented with a slide show, spoke on the need for sex education. Little did Kothari realise that his attempts to stitch the show with a bit of shayari8217; and embarassing posers to the audience would draw flak from the former CEC.

Putting forth his arguments strongly in Hindi, Seshan called on the sexologists to deal with sex education with seriousness. He said,8220;Most of the slide and talk shows only strenghthened the lightness with which sex education is taken in the society.8221;

8220;If the doctors can discuss problems of heart, brain and kidney with seriousness than why is that the education related to sex has to find the way of funny one-liners and senseless remarks to make the point more emphatic,quot;observed Seshan.

Advocating the imparting of sex education to the masses, Seshan said like any other compulsory subject in the school curriculum, sex education should bealso imparted to the students.

Earlier, Seshan presented the Satayushi publication and distribution awards to Kumudini Seelam for rendering health services in rural areas. Dr. Anand Joshi for health communication and Zulekha D8217;souza for best medical student were among the recipients. Winners of the essay competition, organised by Dwarika Sangamnerkar Medical Foundation were also presented awards by Seshan.
