Normal life came to a grinding halt in the Kashmir Valley as a three-day strike call given by separatists over the Amarnath land row began on Saturday.

Roads wore a deserted look as both public and private transport kept off the roads. Business establishments, markets, government offices, educational institutions, banks and other semi-government organisations remained closed in Srinagar and elsewhere in the valley, official sources said.

There was no report of untoward incident from any part of the valley, they said. The Coordination Committee 8212; an amalgam of separatists, social organisations, traders8217; and employees8217; bodies 8212; decided on Friday to observe a complete shutdown in the Valley for three days beginning Saturday over the Amarnath land agitation.

However, ambulances are being allowed to move on the roads, the sources said. After weeks of violence, Kashmir was by and large peaceful in the last four days when the committee had suspended the stir.
