Sensex sheds 31 points

The restructured BSE sensitive index opened at 2953.53, and moved between 2972.80 and 2939.67, before closing at 2945.40 showing a net loss of 30.72 points as against the previous close of 2976.12.The BSE-100 index drifted lower by 13.65 points to 1311.88 from the previous close of 1325.53.

The brokers say thenew account started on subdued and most of the operators were not will to expand their position. The possible threat of comet tempel-tuttle to the satellites being used by the stock exchanges and the meteorids shower in this week also restricted the market activity.

ITC, Reliance and Hindustan Lever bore the brunt of selling pressure from domestic funds and institutions and lost Rs 7.75,Rs 3.40 and Rs 15.25 respectively.Larsen also lost Rs 5.60 to Rs 152.60 on selling pressure. Software shares such as Pentafour Software and Satyam Computers also ruled subdued on selling.ACC remained better gaining substantially on speculation of turnaround in the cement industry.The total turnover dropped to Rs 877.95 crore.

On the National Stock Exchange NSE,in lacklustre trading, select share prices declined further.Buying and selling activity were low.The Samp;P CNX Nifty fell by 11.90 to 855.35 from the last close of 867.25.The total turnover stood at Rs 949.14 crore.The exchange witnessed 356 scrips advance, 611scrips decline and 97 scrips steady. 19 securities hit their price bands today, the NSE said.
