The benchmark Sensex ended sharply lower by 55 points, dragged by blue chips and mid-caps alike on Wednesday. Metal and steel stocks were among the major losers.
Up 43 points at one point, the Sensex ended with a loss of 54.76 points at 6,261.52, recording its fourth straight fall. From a high of 6,386.29 hit on Dec. 6, the benchmark index has lost 124.77 points.
