CHANDIGARH, Nov 3: Gurpartap Walia, a Sector 21 resident, today filed a complaint in a city court against Sub Inspector Naresh Pal Verma of Sector 19 police station, alleging illegal detention and custodial torture. The complainant, who has sustained injuries on his left shoulder and back, alleged that he was illegally detained in police station 19 between 1 pm and 6 pm on November 2 and was forced by the SI to confess an offence which he had not committed.

Taking up the complaint, UT Judicial Magistrate Ist Class Baljinder Singh fixed November 18 for evidence on part of the complainant and further asked him to get himself medically examined and place the medical evidence on record.

Meanwhile, talking to the Chandigarh Newsline, Gurpartap said that on the day of occurrence, at about 12 noon, he was sitting at a friend8217;s house in Sector 21 when some UT police personnel came there and asked him to accompany them to the police station. The ground was that they had received a complaint against the occupants of car number PB-59-0011. He added in his complaint that while he drove the car, his friend Harvinder and the accompanying SI sat on the rear seat.

Harvinder added: quot;On reaching they disclosed that there was a complaint that I had made blank calls to some girl. I expressed my ignorance and denied involvement in any such act.quot; He alleged in his complaint that after he denied having committed the offence, he was beaten up with a lathi and he sustained serious injuries on his left shoulder and on some other parts of the body. He also alleged that electric current was applied to his private parts.
