Gone are the days when students and their teachers brainstormed for hours to generate ideas and slogged hard finding material to prepare a project for science exhibitions. With access to the Internet, students have every information just a click away. The result: they don8217;t need teachers8217; help any more. This was what people saw at the science exhibition held at the State Institute of Education SIE on Tuesday.
Almost all the students who displayed their projects said they had got the idea for it from the Internet. It8217;s not only the ideas, but the guidance to set up the projects, too, came from the World Wide Web.
Piyuesh Bhardwaj, a student of Class X at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 35, had made a project on the increasing population. 8220;I got the idea from the Internet and it is from there that I got the relevant information to make the model. The topic is a part of my course too,8221; he said.
Sharing similar thoughts, Deepak Jha, a Class XII student from GMSSS-46 who had made a project on the 8216;improving cure for cancer8217;, said: 8220;I wanted to make a project that was a combination of science and mathematics. My team and I got help from the Internet.8221;
The students could be seen with projects with innovative ideas. Among them was a 8216;green house8217; that was on the theme of global warming and another was on organic farming, highlighting the use of bio-technology.
The exhibition was inaugurated by UT Adviser Pardeep Mehra and attended by Director, Higher Education, Raji P Srivastava and DPI Schools Samwartak Singh.
Organised in collaboration with the NCERT, New Delhi, the exhibition will remain open till November 7 from 8 am to 2 pm. In all, 60 schools from the city are participating in the exhibition.
