SC notice to Centre on plea for security to CAT judges

The Supreme Court on Monday sought a response from the Centre on a plea for providing security to judges of the Central Administrative Tribunal across the country.

The Supreme Court on Monday sought a response from the Centre on a plea for providing security to judges of the Central Administrative Tribunal CAT across the country.

The court was acting on a letter written by the CAT Bar Association, Delhi, to the Chief Justice of India CJI K G Balakrishnan, drawing his attention to the recent incident of murder at the residence of a tribunal8217;s judge in Bihar. Treating the letter as a petition, a Bench comprising the CJI and Justice R V Raveendran also impleaded the Bihar Government as a party to the petition and issued notice to it as the incident had taken place in Patna.

The Bar Association had sought security for judges of all 21 benches of CAT across the country, contending that they were also adjudicating sensitive cases like any other courts.
