PATIALA, Oct 22: Sanjeev Kumar of Hoshiarpur won 1500 metres race on the opening day of the Punjab State Games junior boys Polo Grounds here today.

The second place went to Jasbir Singh of Ludhiana while Rajesh Kumar of Kapurthala finished third.

Earlier, Bharat Raj Bajaj, Principal Secretary Sports, inagurated the meet. More than 1000 sportspersons from all districts of Punjab are participating in the championship.

Amritsar registered a 119-run win over Patiala in the Punjab Inter-District under-19 cricket tournament for Dhruve Pandove Trophy at Dhruve Pandove Cricket Stadium here today.

Rural football
Chandigarh: The 18th annual senior Punjab Rural Football Tournament will be organised by Youth Sports Club at Nangal Khilarian village in Hoshiarpur district from December 19 to 27.

Competitions in athletics 8211; boys and girls, veteran races, chati race for girls and baby shows will be held at the nine-day games. Nearly 1000 sportspersons from 60 villages will take part in the football tournament jointly organised by the Punjab Sports Department, Nehru Yuva Kendra Hoshiarpur. Entries close on November 30.

Gopal wins 1500m
Sirsa: Gopal Krishan of Gurgaon won 1500 race clocking 4:21.1 in the sixth Haryana Rural Sports Championship at Maharaja Partap Stadium here today. Bajrang of Bhiwani was second in 4:21.4 and Vinod of Sonipat came third.
