Both Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna crashed out of the Ordina Open on Wednesday, ending the Indian challenge in the singles draw. While Sania crashed out with a 6-2, 6-2 loss to Michaella Krajicek of the Netherlands, Bopanna went down 6-2, 6-4 to Argentine Guillermo Canas. The loss marked a disappointing end to her build-up for next week8217;s Wimbledon.
Sania struggled to find her feet from the very start and lost her serve twice as Krajicek raced to a 5-1 lead in the first set that lasted barely half an hour. The Indian could not recover from the opening setback and was thoroughly outplayed in the second set as well with Krajicek hardly breaking a sweat, wrapping it up in just 25 minutes.
Meanwhile, qualifier Bopanna cut a sorry figure in his match against former top ten player. The one-sided encounter lasted little over an hour.
Sania seeded 32nd for Wimbledon
There was some good news for Mirza though, as she was seeded 32nd for the Wimbledon grass court championship starting here next week. The Indian ace, who returned to the court only a week ago after missing the entire clay court season due to a wrist injury which required surgery, did not experience any major dip in her WTA rankings during the lay-off and is 33rd in the latest list, the sole criteria used for deciding the seedings.
