NOVEMBER 5: Trading for Samvat 2055 (the Hindu calendar year) ended on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) today on a bullish note and Sensex zoomed by 113 points on all-round buying support. While the sentiment was boosted following fresh support extended by foreign funds, local operators also made brisk buying despite it being the last session for the current settlement.

Satyam Computer, Pentafour Software, Infosys, NIIT, Ranbaxy and ITC remained in the forefront of the rally. Friday the last trading day of the Samvat 2055 and trading for Samvat 2056 will begin on Sunday with the special "muhurat trading session" between 7 pm and 8.30 pm.

Sensex (30-share BSE sensitive index) started at 4501.27 and surpassed the 4600 mark and touched the day’s high of 4608.42 before closing at 4598.45, with a sizeable gain of 112.53 points from the previous close of 4485.92. The BSE-100 index also gained smartly by 43.29 points to 2151.10 as against the previous close of 2107.81.

Marketmen were busy squaring up of their positions due to end-account consideration while the Diwali mood also prevented them from taking long-term positions, dealers said. Satyam Computer stood first in the list of turnover by registering the highest turnover of Rs 352.17 crore, Ranbaxy Rs 328.49 crore, Zee Telefilm Rs 176.13 crore, Reliance Rs 164.47 crore and Pentafour Software Rs 132.43 crore. FIIs were net buyers in most of the software counters including Digital Equipment, Pentafour Software, SSI Ltd and Aptech besides some pharma and cement shares.
