In a significant development, the Shri Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti (SASS) on Friday decided to hold talks with a four-member committee constituted by Governor N N Vohra, which is headed by his advisor S S Bloeria, for an amicable solution to the controversy arising out of the revocation of land transfer to the Amarnath Shrine Board.
A four-member panel of the SASS, an umbrella body of nearly 150 religious trade and social bodies, will hold talks with Governor’s panel on Saturday here.
The Samiti had announced its team for holding talks with the Governor’s panel on August 20, after they were invited for talks for the fourth time.
The members in the team constituted by Samiti include Narinder Singh, Brig Suchet Singh (retd), Pawan Kohli and Tilak Raj Sharma. Samiti spokesperson Narinder Singh said it will be headed by Sharma.
Sharma told The Indian Express that they had finally decided to hold the talks to see what concrete solutions they would be offered. “We have already made it clear that all talks will focus on the core demand which is restoration of the 800 kanals of land back to the Amaranth Shrine Board. Other issues, many of which have been mentioned in the five-point agenda sent by the Governor’s panel, are secondary issues,” he added.
On whether there is any hope of a breakthrough in Saturday’s talks, he said all depended on the Government. “If they are really serious about resolution of the issue, then they should come up with a solution that is as per our aspirations, which have been communicated to them time and again.”
