Saina Nehwal cruised into the second round with a straight game win in the women’s single while compatriot Anup Sridhar bowed out of the Indonesian Open Super series in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Saina picked up from where she had left in the Singapore Open and thrashed local favourite Rosaria Yusfin Pungkasari 21-12 21-14 in a one-sided match that lasted 25 minutes.

The world number 30 Indian, who had reached the semifinals of the Singapore Open last week, will next face third seed Hongyan Pi of France, who beat Indonesian qualifier Maria Febe Kusumastuti 19-21 21-15 22-20.

However, top Indian men’s shuttler Anup Sridhar’s campaign was cut short after he went down fighting 21-23 21-9 21-14 to world number 16 Joachim Persson of Denmark in the first round.

Sridhar put up a spirited fight by pocketing the first game but failed to hold on to his nerves. He was overpowered in the next two games by his Danish counterpart in a 44-minute contest.
