CHANDIGARH, Jan 10: quot;Extra care has to be exercised while dealing with a pregnant woman suffering from heart disease.quot; This was stated by Dr Neeta Saxena of AIIMS who was speaking at Continuous Medical Education seminar held in the PGI, here today.

The problems encountered while administering anaesthesia to pregnant women with heart diseases and the need for safe anaesthesia practice were discussed on the second and last day of the seminar. Those who spoke on the topic included Dr Jagmohan Verma, head of department of cardiology, PGI, Professor Kala Vashista, Dr Y.K. Batra, and Dr G.D. Puri from PGI.

While Dr Indu Bala of PGI spoke on the management of bleeding pregnant woman, Dr Sandhya from PGI discussed the intensive care management of women in labour. Dr Sarla Hooda from Rohtak Medical College talked about resuscitation of pregnant mother to save both the mother and the child.
