VADODARA, Jan 17: There8217;s good news for those students aspiring to take up foreign languages but apprehensive of catching up with the pronunciations. The Department of Russian, M S University, proposes to set up a language laboratory in the department.
The only laboratory of its kind in the state, it will have a television set and a monitor, whereby students will be taught the correct pronunciations.
Talking to Express Newsline, department head Debal Dasgupta said the proposed laboratory would accommodate 10 students at a time. He said regular monitoring would enable them know where they8217;re going wrong.
He said the present laboratory at the Faculty of Arts was not interactive, as a result students could only hear the faculty speaking, while there was no way the teachers could find out whether the students were pronouncing the words and sentences correctly or not.
He said department students have already paid the amount for purchasing a television in the department, which in turn had got the go-ahead to set up a separate dish antenna, so that students could get easy access to Russian films.
8220;Once the laboratory is set up, we even intend to invite school students to get an exposure to the laboratory,8221; Dasgupta said.
He said students taking up Russian language as their major in their graduation or those taking up the certificate course took up jobs either in the Air Force, the Navy or at Space Research Centres.
