SAS NAGAR, Nov 21: Patiala House lifted the Cock House trophy (Raja Rampartap Singh Challenge trophy) among senior school for overall excellence in academics, sports and extra-curricular activities at the XIX Annual Day celebrations of Yadvindra Public School here today. The house bagged maximum number of trophies including the ones for inter-house debate, declamation, dramatics, co-curricular activities and the sports trophy. Eminent writer Ruskin Bond, who was the chief guest at the function gave away the prizes and trophies. Addressing the students, he said "If you try to achieve perfection, you can atleast achieve excellence.” He also called upon them to maintain simplicity and develop a fine sense of humour to take on difficult times in the years ahead. Lauding their efforts in various art and craft projects, he jokingly said that he could now come to the YPS students for getting his books bound.

While the trophy for Academics went to Nalagarh House, Aitchison house won the inter-house quiz trophy. Umang Preet got the Air Force Trophy for being the Best Student of Class VII. Harkirat Tiwana of Class IX got the NCC trophy for the Best NCC cadet. Earlier, school principal, Air Cdr (Retd) S. K. Sharma dwelt on the moto of YPS – Vidya, Vinay, Veerta. He urged the parents to let their children grow at their pace and not judge them.

Later, school captain Udey and other students including Rohini, Gunveen, Doreena Kukreja and Roohbir Singh spoke about how the school was contributing towards the growth of students.

The junior and senior school students also put up an attractive exhibition of the work done in various hobby classes. While the English department students had put up a project on "Nature through the eyes of Wordsworth,” the Commerce and Home Science department had put up their food items in the YPS Kitchenette, which was a big hit with everything sold out by the evening. Another highlight was the Career Quest enclosure where information about the various careers was given.
