CHANDIGARH, July 28: It was the day that glitterati descended on the City Beautiful. While some of the numero unos of the modelling world geared up to wow the starry-eyed in Panchkula, VJ-turned-anchor Ruby Bhatia landed up in Sector 8 here to inaugurate a fashion technology institute. And she did it in style, though without any apology for the delay of one-and-half hours. She noted, quot;Though many youngsters want to go in for modelling and veejaying, there are very few institutes, and such ventures can offer them proper training.quot;
The Centre for Excellence in Fashion and Television CEFT is the latest to join the bandwagon of the institutes in the city doling out models and fashion designers.
But why is she being replaced in all the programmes and ad campaigns? Is it that they use her for commercial mileage and then dump her? quot;No, TV is a fast-changing world. They work according to certain concepts and I am there as long that particular concept is on the air. For example, when I was on Bakeman8217;s Ooh, La La, it was the award ceremony. But now Shehezada is there as the concept has changed. Shows come and go and you also need variety on screen. Same with me.quot;
Regarding a debate on the bad influence of TV on youngsters, Ruby was candid enough to admit. quot;There is a lot of nonsense on TV. Both the quality of programmes that the youngsters watch and the quantity of time that they spend in front of it are the main factors. Since I stress a lot on the values of life, I have never tried to portray myself as an indecent person when I was on Channel V and even now.quot;
