NAGPUR, AUGUST 8: The Republican Party of India RPI has congratulated its activists who disrupted the meeting of Union Minister of State for Disinvestment Arun Shourie and manhandled him on Saturday in Mumbai.

The RPI activists protested against Shourie8217;s book, Worshipping False Gods, which they said contained objectionable references to Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar.

The Mumbai Police had arrested 30 RPI activists and booked them under sections 143, 147 both rioting, 353 interrupting a government servant from performing duty and 323 causing physical injury of the Indian Penal Code IPC.

At a press release here on Monday, Thomas Kamble, secretary of Maharashtra unit of RPI, alleged that Shourie has distorted facts in the book and portrayed a wrong picture of Dr Ambedkar. 8220;He is a sadist and deserved such a protest,8221; he said.

Kamble demanded that the government withdraw all cases against the RPI activists. 8220;If the government fails to withdraw the cases against the activists, the RPI will launch a state-wide agitation,8221; he said.

The Vidarbha unit of the RPI held a meeting here on Sunday and flayed the government for registering cases against RPI activists. Senior RPI leaders E.M. Narnaore, Ghanshyam Fuse, Sher Khan Pathan, Pravin Chaore, Jagdish Thool, Dilip Patil, Prakash Gondane were present at the meeting.
