
CHANDIGARH, July 28: The National rowing camp which was scheduled to be held here from July 15, at the Sukhna Lake in preparation for the Pre-Olympic meet to be held in Japan, has been quot;called offquot;. After waiting for more than ten days, there are firm indications that the camp may not be held in the near future as well, if one goes by the officials of the Sports Authority of India SAI.
8220;The camp is cancelled,8221; informed Suresh Harmilapi, Director in-charge, SAI Northern Region. However, the Director in-charge was unable to tell whether the camp will be rescheduled or not.
VV Deval, secretary, Rowing Federation of India, who earlier, had gone to USA when the dates and venue of the national camp were finalised by the SAI team wing Delhi, when contacted on the phone at his office at Pune, was not available for his comments.
However, sources in the RFI, blame it on the communication gap.8220;Since most of the oarsmen selected in the camp were from the army, they were not relieved by the defence authorities,8221; said ane officials of the RFI.
The national rowing team s preparation for the Bangkok Asian Games held last year were also hampered. The team had a set back when their European tour meant for exposure was also cancelled due to a communication gap.
