Film fare

The film might have had a short run in the city8217;s cinema halls, but Surviving Picasso seemed to be a hot favourite with the arty crowd. Among those spotted on the last day, last show was Dilip De8217;s son, Ranadeep. Not Shobha and Dilip8217;s son, but De8217;s son from his first marriage. This young man prefers to keep a low profile, and his job at Oamp;M keeps him busy and away from the city8217;s night spots. Keeping him company were Sanjna Kapoor and Anita Garware. The head of the India Heritage Society, Garware was dressed in an elegant salwar kameez. She is definitely among the city8217;s classiest women 8212; we wish other society stalwarts would take a tip or two from her on designer do8217;s and don8217;ts.

So, while the film may not have appealed to the masses, culture vultures seemed to appreciate this Merchant-Ivory production. There was pin drop silence through the show as mobile phones were firmly switched off. The life and loves of the artist Picasso had Mumbai8217;s audience enthralled.

Love boat

OnValentine8217;s night most of the city8217;s celebs could be found at the Metro cinema hall. The owner, Atul Gupta, had organised a special screening of Titanic 8212; starting midnight. Incidentally, the screening of the film coincided with the actual event. The Titanic sunk on the same day, same time 8212; exactly 79 years ago, at 2.45 am when most of Mumbai8217;s jetset had their eyes glued to the screen. The screening went on till 3.30 am, and among the bleary-eyed who trooped out were Mehr Jessia with fiancee Arjun Rampal and Shah Rukh Khan with wife Gauri. But it was not a night for couples alone 8212; Karisma Kapoor was accompanied by her sister, Kareena.

The Titanic seems to be quite the hottest screening in the city. Last month, on Republic Day, Twentieth Century Fox had a special screening 8212; at 9.00 am for the press. Despite the unearthly hour, editors of many magazines turned up 8212; including celebs like Shobha De and Anish Trivedi.

But with so many screenings, when the film is finally released in March, there mightnot be a soul who hasn8217;t seen it before!

Show time

The recent showing of Arjun Sajnani8217;s Kiss of the Spiderwoman is another event which seemed to appeal to the city. This production, imported from Bangalore, is about the relationship of two men sharing a prison cell. One is gay, the other a political activist 8212; their interaction begins with hostility but gradually a bond is formed between these two very different people. A musical, the play drew in Mumbai8217;s glitterati to St Andrew8217;s Auditorium over the weekend. Including many South Mumbai types who seemed fairly lost in the suburbs. From Gerson D8217;Cunha, Sanjna Kapoor with scriptwriter boyfriend Makarand, Tara Deshpande to Shobha De, Devika Bhojwani and A D Singh 8212; the city8217;s culture-ati was well represented.

And finally8230;

It seems that the two decided to getmarried on Valentine8217;s night. But, if you met them that day you would never have guessed. It was work as usual for both of them on Valentine8217;s Day.
