
The 2400-km route taken by Guru Gobind Singh on his last journey from Punjab to Maharashtra in 1708 would be developed as a national highway and be named after him, it was decided on Friday.
A Government-appointed committee to commemorate the 300 years of Guru-ta-Gaddi 8212; or the consecration of the Guru Granth Sahib as the eternal guru of the Sikhs 8212; met here on Friday under the chairmanship of Home Minister Shivraj Patil and took the decision. The route passes through Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, UP, MP and Maharashtra. Nearly 600 km of this route lies in Punjab and has been completed.
