AHMEDABAD, Aug 27: Rashtriya Janata Party supremo Shanker singh Vaghela has declared that the RJP with the support of other Opposition parties including the Congress would soon call for a Gujarat bandh in protest against the government8217;s failure to check rising prices.
quot;The date of the proposed bandh will be decided in a meeting with the Congress leaders and the leaders of other Opposition parties and various labour unions, which will be convened on tomorrow,quot; Vaghela revealed while talking to media persons here on Thursday.
Congress spokesman Hansmukh Patel, when contacted, however, said, quot;though the idea of jointly organising the proposed Gujarat bandh had come from Vaghela, its date, or, whether our party would extend its support to the RJP8217;s call, will be decided in tomorrow8217;s meeting only.quot;
Giving details of the RJP8217;s future programmes, Vaghela said, to register protests against the rising prices, his party workers would not only gherao the Ahmedabad-based office of the civil supplies directorate but would also resort to its forcible closure on August 31.
Besides that, he said, the RJP would also organise a fortnight-long campaign to create awareness among people about the price rise from September 5. Under this programme, the party workers, besides organising a number of programmes like dharnas and road blocks, would also gherao the government offices and resort to their forcible closure in each and every taluka of the State. If need be, Vaghela said, the party workers would also court arrest to convey to the government the peoples8217; resentment against rising prices.
The RJP chief alleged that the government was now going for rationing of drinking water also.
