
Chief national coach for the junior development programme, Suresh Babu, is looking forward to a good performance from the girls8217; medley relay team, who will take part in the World Youth Athletics Championships, to be held in Ostrava, Czech Republic, from July 11 to 15.
India are sending a 13-member squad.
8220;I am pinning my hopes on the relay team. The girls are fit and should make it to the final. And if they are among the medallists, it will be big bonus,8221; the coach said from Patiala.
MR Poovamma, who holds the national record, and Anu Mariam Jose are the key members of the medley team. Both have got international exposure in the past two years and that, according to the coach, will hold them in good stead.
The coach also has high hopes from shot putter Manpreet Kaur. Going by her performance, Babu says, she can be among the finalists.
In other events, particularly track, he is expecting at least a semi-final entry. Among the six athletes in the boys group, only two are in the track events 8212; 800m and 400m hurdles.
