Dental camp
Patiala: A dental camp is being organised here at Mata Kaushalya Hospital under the dental care fortnight programme initiated by the state government. The camp was inaugurated by medical superintendent of the hospital, Dr Prem Lata Sood. A team of doctors under the guidance of Dr Satwant Kaur, district dental health officer were present at the camp. Free dentures were provided to the poor and the needy. A total of about 4,000 school children have been examined by the school health team. The camp will continue till November 16.

Crime
Moga: Hardeep Singh Dhillon, DIG, Ferozepur Range, today said that the police hoped to soon nab the culprits who had killed Moga industrialist Amarjit Singh Sodhi on Wednesday. .Police also suspect the hand of one of the accused mentioned in the FIR, who left for Canada only a day before the crime was committed.The DIG also reviewed the progress in the Manchanda murder case. According to the Moga SSP, four of the six accused have already been arrested.

Hoshairpur: A youth stabbed and threw a girl into a tubewell and then commited suicide after learning that police have registered a case of murder against him. Police sources today said when Reena Kumari,19, was returning home with friend Jagir Kaur from the fields in village Nainowal Baid yesterday, she was accosted by Onkar Singh near a tubewell. Jagir Kaur alleged that Onkar Singh first stabbed her friend and then pushed her into the tubewell bore, resulting in her death.

Ludhiana: Navdeep Singh Sodhi has been awarded Dr P N Thapar Gold Medal in recognition of his having been selected as the best all-round graduate of the Punjab Agricultural University during the year 1995. Chancellor of the University B K N Chhibber awarded the Gold Medal to him at the annual convocation of the university held yesterday.

Narinder Singh Randhawa Gold Medal for 1994 was presented to Manmohanjit Singh for securing highest overall grade point average in the Master of Science Soils programme during 1994.

Dharamsala: Tibetan Minister of Information and International Relations in exile Tsewang.C. Tethong today said that the Dalai Lama had never expressed his willingness to acknowledge Tibet and Taiwan to be part of China, as was recently reported by a foreign news agency.

Allegation
Patiala: The BJP -led Union government is following anti-people policies and its economic policies was helping capitalism to gain ground in the country. This was alleged today by secretary of Punjab unit of Communist Party of India Joginder Dyal.While addressing a gathering of the PRTC workers rally organised by the PEPSU Roadways Transport Corporation Workers Union AITEC here, he said that the wrong policies were deteriorating the economic condition of the country and destroying the public sector.

Eye-camp
Patiala: Lions Club, Patiala supreme will organise a free eye operation camp at village Paror on November 8, according to a press release issued here today by the club.

Exam date
Patiala: The Punjab Languages Department will conduct Punjabi Parbodh examination on December 13, according to a press release issued by the department, here yesterday. The release said that the state government has introduced a fee of Rs 75 for this examination for the first time. The last date for the submission of complete forms is November 7 and after this date, late fee varying from Rs 25 to Rs 100 will be charged, upto December 12, the release added.

Dental fortnight
Gurdaspur: Civil surgeon Dr Ajaib Singh Sandhu said here today that the district Health Department will observe a fortnight on dental care and for creating awareness amongst people regarding dental diseases from November 1 to 15. Special dental camps will being organised at Gurdaspur, Batala and Pathankot towns, where free dentures would be provided to the poor, the civil surgeon said. He also appealed to the heads of the schools in the district to contact dental medical officers of their respective blocks for free check-up of school children during the dental care fortnight.

Panel to be formed
Gurdaspur: A committee comprising prominent sports persons will be formed to suggest measures to improve the existing sports infrastructure in the state. This was announced by Minister of State for Information and Public Relations, Revenue and Rehabilitation, Sewa Singh Sekhwan, while addressing a gathering of players at the prize distribution function at the four-day Rajendra Memorial Football Tournament at Suchania village, 20 km from here yesterday. The minister said that sports stadiums would be built in each village of Punjab in due course of time. The minister also gave away prizes to the winners. The minister announced a grant of Rs one lakh for the village panchayats for the development of the village and Rs 15,000 for the village Shiva Club.
