Remanded
Hisar: Chief Judicial Magistrate R.K. Khangwal today remanded two officials of the Guru Jambheshwar University GJU, to 14 days judicial custody for their alleged involvement in tampering with the marks of two students of an engineering college. The officials, a superintendent and a computer assistant were earlier arrested and produced in the court of CJM.The bail application of the two accused will come up for hearing on November 27.

Security
Fatehgarh Sahib: In view of the incidents that have taken place in other states, the deputy commissioner, Fatehgarh Sahib has asked the SSP, Fatehgarh Sahib and the SDM to provide proper security to the missionary hospital and school being run at village Bhadalthuha in the district. The deputy commissioner also held a meeting with the hospital and school management today.

Trust
Fatehgarh Sahib: A trust, after the name of Baba Bulle Shah, the Punjabi Sufi Saint would be formed soon, disclosed, Deputy Commissioner T R Sarangal, while talking to the mediapersons here yesterday. The aim of the trust will be to promote cultural activities, he said. He said that a cultural festival would be organised on December 22 at Sirhind.

Ahmadiyyas8217; conference from Dec 5
Batala: The 107th international conference of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community would be held at its International headquarters at Qadian, near here, from December 5 to 7. According to a communique, people from 165 countries would participate in the conference which would be addressed by the community8217;s spiritual head, Hirza Tahir Ahmad through satellite from London on the inaugural day. The communique further said that the community had made arrangements to translate the Urdu speeches into ten different languages. Meanwhile, the delegates from abroad have started arriving at Qadian.

Two killed in separate accidents
Batala: Two persons were killed in two different road accidents in and around the town. Sewa Dass, a painter was killed when his scooter was allegedly hit by a four-wheeler on the GT road. The driver of the vehicle, however, managed to escape. In another accident a youth, Himau Kabir an Ahmadiyya Muslim, was killed when his motorcycle was allegedly hit by a bus on the Batala-Qadian road. Police have registered different cases, however, no arrests have been made so far.

Opening of insurance sector comes under fire
Patiala: The General Insurance Employees Association Northern Zone, Patiala unit, has condemned the Union Government8217;s decision of allowing private and foreign companies to enter the insurance sector. In a statement here today president of the association, Vinod Dhundia said that the association would intensify its ongoing struggle against privatisation. Dhundia said that the employees would go on chain hunger strikes if their demand was not accepted. He said that the chain hunger strike would start in Patiala from December 15 jointly by the Life Insurance Corporation and the General Insurance Corporation.

Sai Baba8217;s birthday celebrated
Patiala: The 73rd birthday of Sri Sathya Sai Baba was celebrated here at THE Amar Ashram Sai Dham. Various social institutions here also drew crowds on the occasion. The programme launched by Sri Sathya Sai Samithi, Patiala commenced at 4.45 am. Later food was distribution among the deaf and dumb school, the Rajindra Orphanage, Shakuntala School for Girls, the Aurbindo Orphanage, the leprosy patients colony and the two Pingalwaras.

Free eye camp from Nov 29
Patiala: The Akhara Dharam Dhaja will organise week-long a free eye operation camp at the village Nirmal Kot Samana from November 29, according to a press release issued here today. The release said that patients would be examined and operations conducted at the camp. Free spectacles and medicines would also be distributed amongst patients.

Sikh scholars honoured
Patiala: The Academy of Sikh Religion and Culture honoured four Sikh scholars for their valuable contribution to Sikh religion here. Those honoured included Harpal Singh Pannu for his book quot;Sikh theory of time and eternity,quot; Sukhdev Singh Shant for his research paper, quot;Baisakhi of 1699quot;, Piara Singh for quot;Bhai Makhan Shah Lubana and Amrit Raina for the quot;Vision of Gursikhquot;.

Eye camp organised
Patiala: Lions Club, Rampura Phul, organised an eye camp in which 638 patients were examined, while 45 cataract and six other operations were performed by Dr. Mann Singh Bhatia, head of the eye department of Rajinder Hospital, Patiala, according to president of the club, lion Subhash Mangla. Mangla said that free medicines, boarding and lodging and food was also provided to the patients by the club.

Osho meditation Shiver from Dec 7
Patiala: Osho Dhayan Sargam Meditation Center will organise an Osho Dhayan Shivir here from December 17 to December 20 at Amar Ashram. Osho Dharamdoot Anand Svabhava from Osho Commune International, Pune, will conduct the meditation Shivir, while Ashok Bharti from Pune will present Bhakti Sangeet.

Diabetes check-up camp held
Patiala: Lions Club Patiala Shish Mahal organised a diabetes check-up camp, where Dr Surinder Mudgil, Dr Preet Inder Kaur of Goetze Escort Ltd and Dr R. M. S. Bajwa told people about the complications and precautions that can be taken to avoid diabetes.

Karamchari Dal meeting
Patiala: The state president of Punjab State Karamchari Dal Hari Singh Tohra has summoned an emergency meeting of its working committee on November 28 in Ludhiana to chalk out their future course of action, according to a press release issued by general secretary of the Dal, Kulbir Singh Saidkheri. The release said that the working committee will deliberate on the long-pending demands of the Dal. Saidkheri said that the state government had not accepted the demands raised by the Dal, while adding that there was resentment amongst employees on this issue.
