Red Cross staffers threaten self-immolation

NEW DELHI, SEPT 29: Employees of the Indian Red Cross Society NCT branch Hospital on Wednesday threatened to commit self-immolation en mass on Thursday to protest against the society8217;s failure to meet their long-standing demand for pay parity with the staff at the headquarters.

A press release by Union general secretary Bishamber Dayal alleged that the hospital8217;s honorary secretary was harassing the employees, who have been on an indefinite strike since June 8, instead of holding negotiations on their demands. Seven active members of the union have been suspended on false charges.
