
SURAT, May 17: A number of key issues including those of transport, water for irrigation, roads, illegal encroachments and grievances of the public were discussed at a district co-ordination and complaints meeting held at the collectorate on Saturday. All MLA8217;s from the region and top district administration officials attended the meeting, chaired by District Development Officer DDO Kamal Dayani.
The meeting is held every month to discuss major problems and issues.Among major issues that were brought up by the MLAs for discussion included providing jobs to local youths at public sector undertakings at the industrial areas of Hazira and Mangrol. MP Chhitu Gamit and other MLAs made a forceful representation against youths from outside the state being employed by the industrial estates and companies.
Gamit stated that the district administration must make special efforts under the Rojgar Yojna8217; to accommodate local people into the public sector undertakings. Gamit alleged that when the state government has decided to absorb 85 per cent of the local people in the PSU8217;s, the district administration was not adhering to this rule.
Apart from MP Chhitu Gamit, MLAs Nagarji Vasava, Pratap Gamit, Paresh Vasava, Dhansukh Patel, Raman Chaudhari and others spoke of the problems faced by the people in their respective constituencies.
A common concern voiced by all the representatives was that the roads connecting the talukas of the district were in bad shape.
