
PUNE, May 17: The Maharashtra Rural Credit Project MRCP, implemented by the National Bank of Agriculture and Rural Development NABARD with assistance from International Fund for Agricultural Development IFAD, has been extended to seven more districts of Beed, Thane, Jalgaon, Bhandara, Gadchiroli, Amravati and Dhule.
According to NABARD chief general manager P A Pathak, the MRCP launched earlier in 1995 in 400 select villages of Nanded, Yeotmal, Chandrapur and Pune yielded remarkable results in terms of betterment of the average village life and also created a congenial atmosphere to accept and accommodate values which help improve the social structure at the village level. The project further envisaged gradual elimination of most of the present day problems threatening the socio-economic fabric of the rural society, he stated. According to Pathak, the three year old project has already reached 22,000 beneficiaries having a credit involvement of Rs 10 crore.
