The recent recall of Ravi Nair, RAW’s man in Sri Lanka, has revived old battlelines in the country’s external intelligence agency with a growing demand among the ranks to reveal the names of all those named in the inquiry into the defection of Rabinder Singh to the US. While the chargesheet filed in the Rabinder Singh case names no serving RAW official, the word is out that the accomplices were given a fresh lease of life with their names being ignored by the panel which finalised the chargesheet. As many as 15 officials, senior and junior, were apparently named, but none of the names found their way into the chargesheet. Instead, some of them bagged even higher posts and continue to operate without much fuss. Nair was not part of this lot, but other adverse reports against him were ignored and he was transferred to Colombo. Insiders say similar is the story with the Rabinder Singh inquiry.
