KOZHIKODE, AUG 26: Valay Parikh of Gujarat and Deepan Chakravarthy of Tamil Nadu were in the lead in the under-14 and under-12 boys sections respectively with five points each at the end of the fifth round of the National Rapid Chess (under-14 and under-12) Championship here today. Parikh defeated Poobesh Anand and Deepan Chakravarthy beat Sunil Rangarajan of Karnataka in the fifth round.

In the girls under-14 section, C Delphin of TN took the lead with four points after defeating Shradha Samani of Maharashtra in the fourth round. In the girls u-12 section, Eesha Karvade and Kruthika Nadig of Maharashtra shared the lead with 4.5 points each after their fifth round victories. Under-12 boys section has eight rounds, under-12 boys and girls have seven each and the under-14 girls six.

Under 12 boys: Round-4: Deepan Chakravarthy (TN) 4 bt Abhijit Gupta (Raj) 3; R S Prasanna (TN) 3.5 drew with Sunil Rangarajan (Kar) 3.5; Siddharth (TN) 2.5 drew with Rahul Sangma (Bih) 3; Yogesh Mapari (Mah) 3.5 bt Yogananda Kumar (AP) 2; Hoble (Goa) 2.5 drew with Purushottaman (AP) 2.5.

Under-14 girls: Round-3: K Swetha (AP) 2 lost to C Delphin (TN) 3; Amrutha Mokal (Mah) 2 lost to Pannaga Magal (Mah) 2.5; Shradha Samni (Ma) 2.5 bt Malarselvi (TN) 1.5; Priyadarshini (TN) 2 drew with Nimmy George (Kerala) 1.5; Krishna Manjusha (AP) 1 lost to Baisakhi Das (WB) 2.
