Tell me about it. The travelling has taken a toll. All my friends have forgotten me. I can8217;t move into my new house in Bandra because the interior work is still pending. Don8217;t get me started. Most of all, it8217;s really tough to be away from India.
What do you miss the most?
This may sound clicheacute;d, but I miss the chaat on the streets, the madness and the confusion, which is so uniquely us. I like the fact that I can drop by unannounced at my friends8217; places and they will be good to me. But mostly, I miss my doggie, Junior.
Your films are youth-centric. Is that a conscious choice?
Well, I don8217;t do anything I don8217;t believe in. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I know that youngsters perceive my films as uber cool. That also puts a certain responsibility on me. I was sceptical about the intimate scenes in Salaam Namaste, but I reasoned that the second half of the film deals with pregnancy. So, the characters have to make love. Now, we can8217;t really show two flowers meeting.
You8217;re playing another very young character in Karan Johar8217;s Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna.
It8217;s a very interesting and new character, something I haven8217;t done before. Women will definitely identify with it. In KANK, all six main characters represent six pillars of society. Everyone who sees it will identify with at least one of them.
Apparently there were major fights on the KANK sets.
That8217;s mere speculation. There can never be any animosity on Karan Johar8217;s sets. All of us have worked together before, so we know each other really well.
So everything was hunky-dory between Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan?
But of course. It8217;s high time people stopped creating baseless stories.
And all is fine between you and Rani Mukerji?
I8217;m very happy working with Rani. We are each other8217;s good luck quotient. We8217;ve only given superhits, so we have no reason to have problems.
But doesn8217;t sharing credits with Rani in every movie bother you ?
Not at all. Rani and I always rock. And we8217;ll continue to do so.
What are you hoping to achieve from the defamation case you filed after a tabloid named you in the alleged Salman-Aishwarya tapes?
I have no problem if the media blows the truth out of proportion, but please don8217;t construct a lie and print it. I8217;m somebody8217;s daughter for god8217;s sake, you can8217;t do this to me.
You8217;re obviously livid.
You can say that again. I don8217;t want my kids to read an archived article 50 years down the line and believe it. I want to clear my name. I8217;ve knocked on the doors of the judiciary and I8217;m very hopeful. I8217;ve never been let down by the system. In the past also, I8217;ve stood by the system. I genuinely believe that ours is a great country, and it won8217;t let me down.
Did the controversy create bad vibes with Salman Khan?
No. I8217;ve known Salman for quite some time now, and he8217;s been very supportive. I8217;m not going to change my opinion about him on the basis of an article. I admit I was very angry when the story hit the stands, but I decided to keep my judgement on hold till the forensic results came out. What8217;s the point of hanging someone before the judgement is out.
The latest rumour is that you8217;re miffed with Farhan Akhtar since he opted for Priyanka Chopra in Don?
This is a new one. Are you sure? But I absolutely adore Farhan. He8217;s the funniest guy around and a total nut. If I can do films with other directors, why can8217;t a director do films with other heroines? If a role doesn8217;t suit me, Farhan won8217;t take me. Also, if I ever have a problem with him, I8217;ll speak to him and shout at him, never sulk about it.
Ness8217; mother Maureen Wadia recently said that she8217;s delighted with you. Comment.
People are making a big deal about it. It8217;s great that she said that. She8217;s amazing too.
Any plans to settle down?
No. Everything has a time and place.
Do you still maintain that one fine day you8217;ll quit acting?
Definitely. I can8217;t be doing the same thing all my life. I8217;m sure there are other things that need me.
Three things you want to do when you quit?
I want to build an exceptional school with a focus on the highest quality of sports. It8217;ll be for underprivileged kids who will be brought up as Indians and not on the basis of their religion. I want to win a lottery and just chill. I also want to be on the traffic board panel and give my suggestions on better traffic management.
Ness, in one word?
The best. Oops, that8217;s two words. But that8217;s the truth, so go ahead and print it.
