IT turned out to be a royal bluff. The latest PGTI event, when announced a couple of days ago, was touted as the one with a star parade. But when it actually began today at the Golden Greens golf course in Gurgaon, it was just another event with golfers of all stripes minus the stars.

The order of play list was a shock for many first-round 8216;spectators8217; as they were greeted with the absence of, arguably the biggest draw of the new Tour 8212; Jyoti Randhawa.

Randhawa was very much present, two days ago at the announcement of the ColorPlus Open, expressing his availability for the same. But the European PGA player8217;s no-show today was nothing but disappointing. Unlike Randhawa, Shiv Kapur, who also plays on the European PGA circuit, had indicated about his giving a slip to the tournament at the announcement. Kapur had declared his intentions the same day with his recurring back injury forcing him to take time off.

On the other hand, Randhawa had even spoken about having played a practice round at the course and being all ready for competition. When questioned, PGTI Tour Commissioner Ajai Gupta said that Randhawa had been entered and was forced to withdraw at the last moment. 8220;He was all ready to play but he is suffering from a sore throat. He8217;s on antibiotics, and after assessing himself in the morning, he decided against it,8221; he told The Indian Express.

But sources say that the decision to not play had been there all through as the 35-year-old has plans to leave for Europe this weekend to rejoin the Tour he had taken a break from for the week. The ColorPlus Open gets over on Sunday.

Despite repeated attempts to get the Gurgaon-based player8217;s statement, he hung up saying he was busy.
