CHENNAI, AUGUST 14: Woorkeri Venkat Raman, the left-handed Test cricketer, bid adieu to first class cricket.

Raman, aged 34, announced his retirement at a press conference.

A left-arm slow bowler, Raman made his Test debut as a batsman at Chennai in 1987 against West Indies and played his last match at Capetown in South Africa under Sachin Tendulkar in 1996-97.

Raman played 11 Tests, scoring 448 runs in 19 innings including one unbeaten, his highest being 96 against New Zealand at Christchurch in 1989-90. He played 27 One Day International matches for an aggregate of 616 runs with 113 as his highest against South Africa at Centurion Park in 1992-93.
