Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee revealed that he had been receiving requests from Union Health Minister Ambumani Ramadoss to quit smoking.

8220;Everyday I receive letters from the Union Health

Minister, saying 8212; give up smoking, give up smoking,8221; said the chief minister.

He was speaking at an event of the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industries FICCI at a hotel in Kolkata on Wednesday.

The entire house burst into laughter as Bhattacharjee informed about the letters. The CM also asked YC Deveswar, chairman of cigarette manufacturer ITC, to switch to other industries. 8220;Mr Deveswar, I see the future of cigarette industry is doomed. You better switch to food processing, which has a bright prospect in West Bengal,8221; said the chief minister.

Earlier, Ramadoss had admitted that he wrote to Bhattacharjee requesting him to quit smoking. He also said international agencies had refused to provide funds for pollution control to West Bengal because the chief minister was a smoker. Bhattacharjee had then retorted, 8220;It seems all the problems of the world have been resolved.8221;
