
COLOMBO, JANUARY 14: India, along with Pakistan, New Zealand and South Africa, lost crucial points in the Youth Cricket World Cup as incessant rains in different parts of Sri Lanka washed out play on the fourth day of the tournament.
The match between India and Holland at Matara Stadium in southern Sri Lanka was interestingly placed with the Indians, chasing a target of 59, were struggling at 15 for three.
The two teams received a point each after rain stopped play in the afternoon soon after the Indian colts began batting.
The Mohammed Kaif-led Indians bundled out Holland for 58 in 29.2 overs after the Europeans opted to bat first in a 35-overs-a-side affair.
Anup Dave claimed back-to-back three-wicket haul giving seven runs. Shallab Srivastav 2-30, Mrityunjay Tripathi 2-8, Yuvraj Singh 2-4 and skipper Kaif 1-6 were the other successful bowlers.
Left-arm paceman Vikash Tewarie who took three wickets for eight runs as he removed opener Ravneet Rickey for three, Venugopal Rao 2 and YuvrajSingh for a duck.
Manish Sharma and Kaif were at the crease with India 15 for three after four overs when the rain came pouring down.
At the end of the second round, West Indies, Australia, India and Pakistan led their respective groups. Sri Lanka, bracketted with Australia in Group D, were also on four points after two wins.
West Indies, Australia and Sri Lanka have already made it to the next stage by winning their first two matches. India will take on New Zealand on January 16 at Galle in their last preliminary league tie.
