Railways post higher freight earnings

NEW DELHI, Sept 23: The Railwyas moved 172.45 million tonnes of revenue-earning freight traffic during the first five months of the current financial year, ending August, as compared to 161.26 million tonnes during the corresponding period of the previous year.

The freight moved is 2.90 million tonnes higher than the target of 169.55 million tonnes for the period and 11.19 million tonnes more than the previous year.

Of the total revenue-earning freight traffic, coal accounted for 85.17 million tonnes and raw material for steel plants 15.08 million tonnes.
