Rahul’s Dalit prem a mere eyewash: Maya

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) national president and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has ridiculed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s recent visits to Dalit homes in Bundelkhand and has termed his “Dalit prem (affection for Dalits) a mere eyewash”.

“He goes through a tedious purification process at home after such visits, washes himself with a special soap,” she said while addressing public meetings in Khalilabad and Azamgarh on Monday in support of her party candidate for the by-elections.

The BSP supremo blamed both the Congress and BJP for being perturbed by the increasing popularity of the BSP and, therefore, indulging in pressure politics. “Whether it is the Taj Corridor or the disproportionate income case, these parties leave no chance of mudslinging,” she said. She claimed that her party was gaining ground in other states and this was troubling the opposition parties.

Mayawati also claimed that in the next parliamentary elections, her party would be in a position to give the nation its next Prime Minister. For this, she said the voters have to act as cautiously in polling as they did in the Assembly elections.

“The BSP is the only party that has given the state a majority government and it is the only party having the potential to give the nation a majority government,” she said.

Reacting to allegations of the Samajwadi Party (SP) that the Government was working with political vendetta, she said that if this was the case, Mulayam would have been in jail. She stressed that the law and order situation should not be rated on the basis of the number of FIRs but by the action taken by the Government.
