BANGALORE, Aug 15: Olympian Rahul Singh of Customs and Central Excise was on Saturday named captain of the India `A’ team, which is scheduled to play in the four-nation Panasonic Cup hockey tournament at Hamburg (Germany) later this month. This was announced by the Indian Hockey Federation Secretary General K Jothikumaran, who was present here to watch the final day’s proceedings of the 15-day camp for the Hamburg-bound team.
Expressing confidence about a good performance at Hamburg, the coach of the team C R Kumar said: “The boys are bubbling with enthusiasm and their morale is very high. I just hope everything will remain in place when we play.”
The `A’ team played a practice match against the Centre of Excellence team and won by a handsome 9-0 margin. The team leaves for Delhi on Sunday en route to Hamburg on Monday.
Balakrishnan, manager to Kuala Lumpur: Meanwhile, M S Balakrishnan was named as the manager of the Senior team, which will play in the Commonwealth Games next month. However, themanager of the Hamburg-bound team was still to be finalised.
