In a sympathetic gesture, the Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has okayed the transfer of Rapid Action Force (RAF) constable Arun Kumar, whose son was abducted in Gaya six months ago, to the RAF Bn 106 in Jamshedpur.
Kumar is now with Bn 100, based in Ahmedabad. The Indian Express had highlighted how he was keeping peace in Vadodara with his mind burdened by thoughts of his kidnapped son. The transfer will make it easier for him to follow up on the investigation of the case.
‘‘I will leave on Wednesday. I am not sure what I can do for my son, but at least I will meet officials in person and try to assist them in their investigation. I must know where my son is,’’ Kumar said.
Director General of CRPF J.K. Sinha had earlier inquired about Kumar’s plight and instructed Commandant G.S. Kaul of RAF’s Bn 100 to speed up Kumar’s transfer to a base closer to his home.
‘‘We had written to Bn 36 in Gaya and Bn 101 in Kanpur to send us someone in exchange for Arun Kumar. His transfer order is being issued and he will be off to his new posting by Wednesday,’’ said Kaul.
Kumar said he’d received a Rs 25,000 loan from some of his seniors to aid him in the search for his son. He also said that he would now seek help from the administration. ‘‘If I come to know where my son is kept, I will request for a special team to be formed for rescuing him,’’ he said.
Bihar police officials, who had arrested three of the abductors—Virendra Mahato, Firan Alam and Ramvilas Mahato— have said those who have abducted Kumar’s son were wanted for several crimes against them.
However, police said that four others from the gang, including two masterminds of the kidnapping, are still absconding. An Independent MLA from Nawada, Kaushal Yadav, has also been named as a suspect in the case.
